Whiskered Pitta

(2015)
Media

On Sundays, city parks become gathering spaces for domestic helpers—visible for a moment, yet often unseen in society. This collaboration by Priscila Chu and Man-chun asks: who are they, and what stories do they hold?

Through conversations, fragments of lived experiences surfaced, often shared with hesitation. Rather than revealing identities, the artists translate these stories into sound and image. Priscila’s composition draws on the whiskered pitta—a rare, elusive bird from the Philippines—as an analogy. Layering bird-like sonic textures with traces of the helpers’ present environments in Hong Kong, the work moves between concealment and expression.

Man-chun’s abstract visuals mirror these dual realities of presence and invisibility.

Presented as a performance, the work pays tribute to those who sustain everyday life yet remain overlooked—inviting audiences to listen more closely to what is heard, and what remains just beyond reach.
